Objectives:This is an environmental assessment of the National Roads Improvement and Management Program Project (NRIMP-Phase 1).
Aims of the project will be to:
(1) Upgrade roads and supporting capacity of building measures in public road management.
(2) Develop the feasible land management strategies in protected areas (forest reserves).
(3) Remove trees those identified through public consultation which having the historical or community value during construction period.
(4) Replant twice the number of trees which removed during the construction time.
(5) Protect the mangrove trees located in downstream from erosion and siltation.
(6) Improve the drainage systems and install a coffer dam to minimize soil erosion and protect the marine ecosystems during constructing period.
(7) Compensate for loss of cultivation land, residential and commercial structures, assets of cooperatives and private companies as well as for the loss of incomes and businesses through rehabilitation measures and transitional subsidies according to a World Bank-approved resettlement action plan.
(8) Minimize siltation due to sedimentation at construction sites by quarrying and limiting extraction.
(9) Minimize noise and air pollution through dampening devices, air filters, culvert wells, tarpaulin-covered for transporting vehicles, and alleviate soil, water, and dust pollution through waste management.
