Objectives:Shrimp trawling in tropical waters generates a significant, discarded and non-shrimp by-catch. Extensive capture of unwanted juvenile fish threatens sustainable fisheries and biodiversity. This project aims to reduce discard, by introducing technologies that reduce the catch of juveniles in a number of developing countries, wherein the impact of existing and proposed practices will be assessed, and by-catch reduction technologies developed and/or adapted. It will support training and extension and the development of legal frameworks and mechanisms for monitoring, control and enforcement of any new regulations that may be adopted.
