Objectives: | 1). To raise awareness among the coastal communities, in order to promote the sustainable use of mangrove forests; 2). To build the capacity of the Sindh and Balochistan Forest Departments; and 3). To provide technical backstopping to the agencies responsible for the conservation of mangrove forests. |
| Under this project 5000 hectares of mangroves were regenerated in the Indus Delta and Somiani Balochistan. Forest officers were provided training in mangrove forestry and maintenance of existing plantation. A social forestry initiative in coastal villages raised community plantations comprising of 50,000 plants. An Environmental Awareness Programme was also included in the project that organized NGO/Community orientation workshops and conducted an advocacy campaign on the issue. Furthermore, institutional and technical support regarding mangrove forestation was provided to several government departments. |
