Objectives:Determine cause and extent of mangrove mortality associated with Phytophthora sp pathogenicity.
Phytophthora was mildly pathogenic on stressed Avicennia marina mangrove trees and operated synergistically with a complex of other ecological factors including salinity, mud anoxia, excess sedimentation, flooding and frost damage. The importance of A. marina to stopbank protection near valuable dairy farmland was discovered.
